Twitter Starts Cryptocurrency Tipping Service for Native Bitcoin Addresses

In a blog post, Twitter has announced that Twitter users can now send tips to native BTC addresses by using the Bitcoin blockchain. Twitter explains:

“You can now … add your Bitcoin address. People can copy your address and paste it into a Bitcoin wallet of their choice to send you a payment directly.”

Twitter users can also use Strike (a payments app created on the Lightning Network) for tipping. This service is available to those Twitter users who are residents of the United States and El Salvador. Bitcoin native Bitcoin tipping service is available to everyone. Twitter started preparing for the launch of this service in early September 2021. It was from this time, Twitter started to roll out this service to beta testers in limited numbers.

However, the tipping service of Twitter is available since May 2021. It earlier offered multiple payment options including:

  • Venmo
  • WealthSimple Cash
  • Razorpay
  • Bandcamp
  • Patreon
  • Chipper

Jack Dorsey (Twitter founder and CEO) headed Square’s “Cash App” is also available to Twitter users for tipping. The company added two new non-crypto tipping methods: PicPay and GoFundMe.

Reports suggest that Twitter is working towards adding support for NFTs (non fungible tokens). When launched, this service will help users in authenticating, tracking, and showcasing their crypto-collectibles or digitized arts.
